LYONS – Mildred Esther Miller died on Jan. 9, 2016, at Rice County District Hospital, Lyons. On Dec. 18, 1923, Mildred Esther Carlisle Miller was born in a prairie farm home on the north bank of the Arkansas River to Nora Kissick Carlisle and Alfred George Carlisle of Mt. Hope, Kan. After her high school graduation in 1941, she moved to Wichita, Kan., to attend Business College.
It was in Wichita that she met Cecil W. Miller, of Lyons, Kan., to whom she married on April 3, 1942. To their union was born three children: Sandra Kay, Gerald Cecil, and Curtis Carlisle. The couple moved to Lyons, Kan., in March of 1950, to begin farming southeast of Lyons.
Mildred was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lyons, Kan. For her lifetime she was active in her church, community, and for two decades tutoring grade school children to read.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil, on Oct. 18, 1997; and her daughter, Sandra Gram. She is survived by: her sons, Gerald and wife Jody Miller and Curtis and wife Jessica Miller; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She will be missed by her family and all who knew her, yet we are comforted to know that through her faith in Jesus Christ she will live in a loving eternity with God.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at First Baptist Church, Lyons. Visitation with the family present will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church or Cecil & Mildred Miller Scholarship Fund at Lyons High School, in care of the funeral home.
