Mr. August Benhoff, a well known citizen of the South Side, died at 5 o'clock this morning. Mr. Benhoff, while out riding last Monday evening, met with an accident that cost his life.

When he got to Cedar Creek, the horses became frightened and ran away, throwing Mr. Benhoff to the ground, and dragging him for some distance. He was picked up by a resident of the Soldiers' Home, and was conveyed to his home on Sixth and Payson Avenue.

Medical care was summoned, and at first, it was thought that his injuries were not serious, but later on, it was ascertained that he had received internal injuries, which caused his death.

Mr. Benhoff was 53 years and 7 months old. He was one of Quincy's oldest residents, and for a number of years, conducted a horseshoeing shop in different parts of the South Side. At the present time, he was in partnership with Mr. Voss, doing business on Sixth and Payson Avenue.

Mr. Benhoff leaves a wife and two adopted children: Mr. August Cramer, and Mrs. Fred Miller. In the death of Mr. Benhoff, the family loses a kind husband and father, and the community at large [loses] a popular and well known businessman.
