The many friends throughout Beaverhead county, of John W. Ewing, learned with sincere regret last Monday morning that the succumbed to death at Lewistown about 12 o'clock the night before after an illness of days. His con, Clifford, was notified of his condition Saturday and left by motor that afternoon, arriving before his father's death.

Mr. Ewing had been a resident of Beaverhead county for 32 years. He was born July 30, 1870, at Strawberry Point, Iowa, coming to this section of the state when but 20 years of age and for some time afterwards following the railroad construction work as a foreman. Seeing the possibilities in the ranching business, he acquired holdings in the vicinity of Barrett's station and engaged in farming and sheep raising for a number of years. Later he moved to Dillon and became associated with the Dillon Implement company, leaving Dillon last spring to reside in Lewistown where he held a responsible position at the time of his death. Mrs. Ewing and their daughter, Grace, joined him there this summer. Other surviving relatives are another daughter. Mrs. Clifford Reed of Melrose and several grandchildren.

Mr. Ewing was a member of Dillon lodge No. 16, A.F. & A.M., and of St Elmo commandry of the Knights Templar and was active in the work of both orders. The funeral was held from the Masonic hall Thursday afternoon, the Rev. Ernest E. Loft of the Presbyterian church officiating and burial was made in Mountain View cemetery.
