Ruth Y. Minnich, of 808 Piney Creek School Road, Piney Creek, NC passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Carroll County, VA, August 5, 1916 to Benjamin C. and Valeria McMillian Young. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 48 years, Ernest Minnich,; brother-in-law, Ingle Y. and Dennis Boyd; nephews, Lee Young and Dr. Stanley M. Boyd. Ruth was a faithful member of Osborne Memorial Baptist Church attending as long as her health permitted. She had been honored as the oldest member. Ruth and Ernest made their home in the Piney Creek community for many years. She was a homemaker and Ernest was an agriculture teacher at Piney Creek School for many years. Ruth loved her home, church, and community. She loved her flowers and beautiful yard. She especially enjoyed painting for several years before she became a caretaker for Ernest. After the death of Ernest, Ruth made many trips touring the country with family and friends. Her final two trips were to Michigan at age 92 and to Washington, D.C. at age 94 with her nieces. Ruth enjoyed life and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She and her family celebrated her 99th birthday in August at Shatley Springs and were looking forward to her 100th in 2016. Ruth is survived by her nieces and nephews, John T. and Evelyn Young, Carol Y. Clement and Les Edgell, Benjamin and Patricia Young, David and Mary Lee Young, Barry and Kathy Young, Karan Young, Princess boyd, Swanson boyd, Shirlene Haas, Velma Y. Koser; special neighbor and friend, Betty Nichols. The family request the honor of your presence at the funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Minnich at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2016, in the chapel of Grandview Memorial Funeral Home with Reverend Roy Houser officiating. Interment will follow in the Piney Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
