Clarence H. Arbeiter, 91, of Evansville, passed away Monday, January 11, 2016, at St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born September 18, 1924, in Gorham, IL to the late Henry (Jr.) and Lucy (Buck) Arbeiter.
Clarence loved the Lord as he served his family, his church and his country. Through it all, he persevered in his faith and humbly refused any personal accolades, always pointing to his Lord and Savior who carried him every step of the way. During WWII he served in the military in the European Front, receiving a Purple Heart for the sacrifices he made. Returning to Evansville following his service, he attended Lockyear Business College, receiving a two year certification in Accounting. Even though he could no longer play baseball, his great desire, he enjoyed managing the college's softball team. His love for the game was embedded in the St. Louis Cardinals ever after. He began work with George Koch Sons in 1949 through his retirement as Vice President of Personnel in 1989. He was an active member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer where he served as President of the congregation, Elder, and Sunday School Teacher. He had many interests and talents: in his younger years, camping trips with five kids, gardening, baseball, and enjoying his many friends at Redeemer. Later in life, he avidly followed the sporting events of every grandchild becoming their most ardent fan and pursued gardening well into his eighties.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 71 years, Nelda R. (Kranawetter) Arbeiter; children, Yvonne Joyner of Phoenix, AZ, Joyce (Greg) Donaldson of Evansville, Bruce (Diane Kay) Arbeiter of Newburgh, Cheryl Walker of Evansville, and Brian (Shana) Arbeiter of Redlands, CA; grandchildren, Jeff and Todd Carson Joyner, Justin and Nicholas Donaldson, Jarrod Walker, and Brodie, Brayden and Shelby Arbeiter; and great-grandchildren, Zoe and Milo Joyner, and James Donaldson.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 15, 2016, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 1811 Lincoln Avenue, officiated by Pastor Tom Wenig, with entombment in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, and Friday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderEastChapel.com.
