Within his short lifetime, John Meek Jr. II had become the proud owner of a photography studio in Honolulu. He was the first Native Hawaiian to take up the art of photography as a profession. Sadly, two years after opening--in the midst of a serious economic depression caused by dropping sugar prices-- they sold their equipment and "several hundred choice negatives".
John was married to Miriam Keau. There are no records to indicate that John Jr II had fathered any children with Miriam. Miriam later married James Keau in 1883, and J.Wm. Kamali in 1907.
John had a daughter, Elizabeth, with Kaheleluli. There are no records to indicate that he and Kaheleluli were married.
It is believed that John may have succumbed to the Measles epidemic of the late 1840's.
