Helen Henrietta Bisges, age 93 years, of Jefferson City, Mo. passed away peacefully Saturday January 9, 2016 in Jefferson City.

She was born on October 20, 1922 in Taos, Mo. the daughter of Joseph and Johanna “Jenny” (Forck) Grothoff. She was married on April 6, 1948 at St. Francis Xavier in Taos, Mo. to Hubert Bisges, who preceded her in death on August 2, 1996.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, she graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School in Taos and received her teaching certificate from Warrensburg Teaching College.

Helen taught at the Osage Bend Elementary School until she married Hubert. Once she got married, she quit teaching to stay at home to raise her family whom she loved dearly. She supported her children by being active in their activities. She was involved with the Blair Oaks P.T.A. and Band Boosters.

Helen was an active member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Osage Bend and St. Stanislaus Church in Wardsville. She was actively involved with religious education at St. Margaret’s Church. She enjoyed her friendships through the Ladies Sodality at St. Margaret’s Church and the Perpetual Adoration through St. Stanislaus Church.

She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, especially Liverpool rummy, but most of all, she loved being around children. She cherished time with her grandchildren and had such a kind, compassionate way about her. She was always a good neighbor.

Helen is survived by her seven sons, Ron Bisges (Theresa) of Jefferson City, Stan Bisges (Carole) of Jefferson City, Dr. Roger Bisges (Eileen) of Lake Ozark, Kevin Bisges (Beverly) of Jefferson City, Paul Bisges (Deborah) of Wardsville, Tom Bisges (Dee) of Wichita, Kansas, Darrell Bisges (Tobie) of Liberty; three daughters, Diane Niekamp (Tom) of Wardsville, Sharon Henry (Lindsey) of Jefferson City and Carol Schell (Mike) of Jefferson City; one sister, Clara Eiken of Taos; one brother, Richard Grothoff (Irene) of Jefferson City; one sister-in-law, Rosie Grothoff of Jefferson City; 25 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Jenny Grothoff; her husband, Hubert Bisges; three brothers, Harold, Francis and Bernard Grothoff; one sister, Joan Richards; and a granddaughter, Lauren Southard.

Visitation will be held at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Osage Bend, Mo. from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016 with the Reverend Jeremy Secrist officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at St. Margaret’s Church Cemetery in Osage Bend, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Margaret’s Ladies Sodality or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Freeman Mortuary.
