Alma Mae Hall McCalman
went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, January 7, 2016, in Carthage, Mo., where she has resided the last three years.

She was born in Stilwell, Okla., October 19, 1923, to R. L. and Ruby Williams Reese.

She married Selan Hall December 2, 1942.

She was gifted by God as a vocalist and used her talent singing at churches and events in the area.

In 1940, she had her own radio show once a week over KBIX, Muskogee, Okla.

She was a member of National and State Music Teachers Association, Nu Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority, and Stoney Point Club of Oklahoma Family and Community Education Clubs. She attended York Conservatory of Music, in Fort Smith, Ark., for four years, Northeastern State University Tahlequah, Okla., formerly Northeastern State Teachers College, and Phillips University, in Enid, Okla.

She was a private music teacher and one of her most rewarding accomplishments was teaching music at Maryetta School for 15 years.

She was baptized into Christ in 1938 and faithfully served her Lord at First Christian Church, in Stilwell, where she taught Sunday School, played the piano or organ, and directed the choir for 42 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Mareese Hall Robbins, and husband, Dr. Jack Robbins, of Carthage; granddaughters, Gina Scherwitz (husband Scot), Greta Nicholas (husband John); great-grandchildren, Ethan Hall Scherwitz, Jacob Henry Scherwitz, Joseph Reese Nicholas, Benjamin John Nicholas; a cousin, Marianna Hallford, who is loved as a sister.

She is also survived by husband, Robert L. McCalman, whom she married June 18, 2006.

She is loved by his family as their mother and grandmother.

She is survived by sons Kevin McCalman (wife Kathy), and Kerry McCalman (wife Kerri); grandchildren, Richard McKee and Robbie McKee; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Gorton (husband Sterling), Morgan McKee, Skyler Rogers, Sarah Houston; great-great grandchild, Alexander Gorton.

She was preceded in death by parents, Ruby and Roy Reese; sisters, Tommie Ruth Pemberton and Mildred Burnett; husband, Selan Hall; and son, Selan Jr.

She was a loving mother, wife, and grandmother, always placing others before herself. All who knew her were touched by her Christ-like humility, kindness, and gentleness.

Services are planned for 1 p.m. Friday, January 15, at First Christian Church Stilwell.

Interment to follow in Stilwell Cemetery.
