In 1828 Jacob and his family moved to Crawford County, OH and in Sept. 1837 to DeKalb Co. Indiana... and settled on section 22, Franklin township. Their nearest neighbor was 5 miles distance. On account of the wild animals, they built their log cabin without a door and entered the house by a hole in the roof. Jacob was a great hunter, being very fond of the sport, and one morning before ten O'clock, killed six deer.
