He was born in Oklahoma City on January 20, 1932, to Orville J. and Oma Irene (Butcher) Carr. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of what was known at the time as Central State University. On March 30, 1963, he married Adoree "Addie" Carr.
He had a lengthy career with Carpenter Paper Company and Butler Paper Company, from which he was retired. Don resided in Amarillo, Texas, for 23 years, moving back with Adoree to Midwest City in 1996.
After retirement, he worked part time for Donrey Outdoor Advertising, then in a partnership, bought billboards of his own, which he sold when he was no longer able to get around.
Don was a member of the Midwest City Blue Lodge 532; Guthrie Scottish Rite; American Legion, Del City; VFW, Del City; and also a member of the India Shrine in Oklahoma City. Don had many health issues starting in 1999, but he still enjoyed life and his coffee shop dates at the Dunkin Donuts.
Always seeming to smile, he always had a joke he was ready to share. Don will be missed very much by his wife and family members. We know that he is whole and healthy again and telling his funny stories.
Don was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Adoree "Addie"; 1 daughter of Oklahoma City; 1 granddaughter of Oklahoma City, 1 granddaughter of Oldsmar, FL; sister of Oklahoma City; brother of Albuquerque, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Appreciation and thanks go to Valir Hospice and nurses Daphne, Kim, and Matt.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Shriner's Transportation Fund, American Cancer Society, and the Central Oklahoma Humane Society.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2015, at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home Chapel in Midwest City.
