Cyrus Brohier Lucas was born in Stratford, Ontario, Canada in 1855, and he came to Texas with his parents at the age of two. When he was old enough, Cyrus was sent to Covey College, in Concrete, Texas, where he graduated, and then entered the cattle business with his father. In 1889, Cyrus married Elizabeth Greenwood Scott, daughter of a pioneer ranching family at Charco, Texas, and he brought his bride to live at Fair Oaks Ranch. Two children were born of this union, Claire Lucas Cartwright and Richard Pryor Lucas.
Cyrus Lucas loved the range and the whitefaced cattle, and he was one of the first ranchmen in Texas to bring purebred Hereford cattle to his ranch. He was always interested in the progress of his county and state. He served as commissioner in Goliad County for many years, and he was the first vice-president of the Rural Land Owners Association, which was organized in Corpus Christi in 1919 with membership from twenty South Texas counties. This Association had much to do with the realization of port facilities in that city.
He was elected president of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association in 1922. While attending a convention of that organiation in Fort Worth, Cyrus B Lucas was stricken and died in March, 1937, at the age of eighty-one.
