Columbus Broadhurst
Columbus Broadhurst, 86, Olathe, formerly a Johnson County deputy sheriff, died last night at the Reece hospital, Gardner. Mr. Broadhurst was born at Barry. In the early 1900s he operated various taverns with eight brothers. The last was at the former Westgate hotel, which is now the Kay. Before operating the taverns Mr. Broadhurst was a member of the police department. After 1918 he moved to a farm nine miles west of Olathe. At the beginning of World War II he became a deputy sheriff. He retired about four years ago. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ida May Broadhurst of the home, and a son, Frank W. Broadhurst, Kay hotel.

BROADHURST - Columbus F., 85 years, R. R. No. 1, Olathe, Kansas, passed away May 18, 1954. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ida Broadhurst of the home; a son, Frank W. Broadhurst, Kay hotel. His remains will be taken to the Olathe Methodist church, Olathe, Kansas, at 1 p. m. Friday, where he will lie in state until time for services at 2 p. m. Friday, Rev. Mark L. Brown officiating. Interment Woodlawn cemetery, Independence, Mo.
