James T. Bailey, 83, of Houston, Texas, passed from this life on December 26, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer. Predeceased by his wife of nearly 50 years, Audrey Rambo Bailey, he is survived by his two daughters, Joanne Monic and Terri Parris. James also leaves behind his two granddaughters, Ashley Monic and Alexandra Parris, his son-in-law, Timothy Parris, and his brother, William Bailey, all of Houston. He was a man who lived to enjoy life. James' absence will be felt deeply, not only by the immediate family, by also by nieces and nephews, and long-time neighbors and friends. Born on the family farm near Blevins, Arkansas, James was the youngest child of Joseph Benjamin Bailey and Freda Hendrix Hartless Bailey. He grew up working in the fields, riding horses whenever possible, and playing baseball and basketball at Blevins High School. After graduation, he joined the US Air Force. Following his time in the service, James moved to Houston. He became a very successful driver/sales representative for the Southwest Distributing Company—purveyors of Budweiser and other Anheuser Busch products. He was a proud union member, serving as shop steward for many years. He worked for a time as an organizer for the AFL-CIO. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans' Memorial Drive. The family would like to thank the amazing staff of the Houston Hospice for their kind and gentle care of James in his last days. Please consider a gift to Houston Hospice in memory of James, in lieu of flowers.
