Hazel Wiona Hite Deaton, 85, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2015. She was predeceased by a son, James David Deaton Jr.; her parents, Hunter H. Hite and Lossie S. Hite; and sister, Violet H. Campbell.
Mrs. Deaton was a charter member of Green Ridge Presbyterian Church and an active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the choir and served as Circle Chairman for the Presbyterian Women. She was a graduate of the Lewis-Gale School of Nursing, Class of 1952 and retired as a nursing supervisor at Community Hospital with 22 years of service.
Surviving to cherish her memory is her husband of 62 years, James D. Deaton Sr. of Roanoke, Va.; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen D. and Richard L. Brown of Texas, Mary D. and Kenneth Akagi of Utah, and Emily M. "Tootie" Deaton of Salem, Va.; grandsons, David L. Brown (Andria) of North Carolina, Richard M. Brown of Texas, and James D. Akagi (Kelsie) of Washington; granddaughters, Marie A. Allen (Tyler) of Georgia, and Alyssa K. Akagi of Utah; great-grandchildren, David A.M. and Charles L.P. Brown of North Carolina, and Link H. and Emi M. Allen of Georgia, and Julia M. Akagi of Washington; sister, Helen Wade Childress of Roanoke, Va.; along with many friends and her church family.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Northminster Presbyterian Church with Dr. Russ Merritt officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on both Tuesday, December 29, 2015, and Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Oakey's North Chapel.
