Col. Roy Clifford Horne was a graduate of Texas A & M University, Class of 1932, with a B. S. in Agriculture. while attending Texas A & M he was a Captain in Company A Corps of Cadets. After graduation, he was commissioned in the U. S. Army Reserve Officers Corps. He worked promoting John Deere Tractor equipment for a dealer in Corpus Christi. He later worked for Caterpillar Equipment Company in South Texas. After 1937, he joined with Wm. K. Holt company to sell equipment in the Valley from Weslaco, Texas. 

After WWII began, he was called to active military service. He was in charge of training for Ordinance Maintenance and served at several different posts before being sent overseas after the D Day invasion. He helped command and maintain ordinance maintenance depots in Great Britian. He was awarded the Bronze Star for service beyond the call of duty. 

After the war, he returned to the Valley and formed the Veterans Land Clearing Service company and Clearing Service company and cleared many acres of land in the upper Rio Grande Valley. Col. Horne acquired land in the McCook area and started farming and ranching interests. 

He began to raise registered Santa Gertrudis cattle. He was an active member of the Santa Gertrudis Cattle Breeders Association, serving as both board member

and officer of RGV and South Texas Santa Gertrudis Cattle Breeders Associations. He showed cattle at all major shows and fairs in Texas as well as other states. He had the Grand National Champion bull "Big Red" in 1972. He sold cattle in several states as well as to foreign countries like Mexico, Central and South America, and South Africa. After selling the last of his land and cattle in 1989, he retired to McAllen. He was an active member of Nikki Rowe VFW Post 2369.

He is survived by his wife, Mary D. Horne of McAllen; his brother Earl J. Horne of Caddo Mills, Texas; and two sisters, Mrs R. C. Dillon from Taft, Texas, and Mrs. Robert Mitchell of Springfield, Missouri.
