Parish of Plaquemines, July 14 1857
A most shocking accident, which resulted in the death of Mr. Stephan Doleze, occurred last Sunday at Pointe-a -la Hache. About 9 o'clock P. M., Mr. Doleze home was discovered to be on fire, and as soon as the alarm was given the deceased rushed to the door of a room in which one of his boys usually slept, and by dint of exertion succeeded in breaking open the door. The child had already escaped from the scene of danger, through a window. While Mr. D. was in the room, one of 7 , 25 pound kegs of powder, which was in an adjoining apartment, exploded, tearing down a part of the house and burying him under the ruins. The body, or rather the bones of the deceased were extricated the next day from under a pile of bricks.
