Vernon F. Ackerman, 85, of Menominee, Mich., passed away on Friday, January 1, 2016, in Menominee. Vernon was born on October 18, 1930, in Menominee, Mich., to the late Robert and Edna (Peterson) Ackerman.

Vernon proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Era.

In 1953, Vernon married Barbara Liska. She preceded him in death in June of 2003.

In 1973, Vernon married Anna Pleshek. She preceded him in death on August 16, 2004.

Vernon worked as a millwright at Ansul for 37 years, retiring in 1988. He had a passion for fishing and hunting, going on many big game hunts. Vernon was active in the Great Lakes Fishing Club and enjoyed volunteering for the club. He further enjoyed carpentry, doing remodeling and side jobs. Vernon was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, past member of the Elks Club and Masons and was a loyal lifelong Green Bay Packer Fan.

Survivors include his son, Robert (Judy) Ackerman of Menominee, Mich.; four daughters: Linda (Louis) Hanson of Marinette, Wis., Laurie Eickmeyer of Menominee, Mich., Julie (Andy) Kessenich of Prairie du Sac, Wis. and Lisa Ackerman of Brandon, Wis.; step-daughter, Kathleen (Len) Tomich of Milwaukee, Wis.; and step-son, Kenny Pleshek of Marinette, Wis.; 13 grandchildren: Michael, Nicholas, Joseph, Heather, Michelle, Jason, Amy, Colton, Natalie, Carly, Leah, Jenna and Ben; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard (Pat) Ackerman of Milwaukee, Wis.

Vernon was preceded in death by his grandson, Mark Ackerman; two sisters: Carol and Betty; and one brother, Robert.

Family will receive friends at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, after 3 p.m., until time of Military Rites at 4:45 p.m., followed by the Funeral Service with Pastor Mark Laatsch officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Anderson Kell Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
