Janet 'Grant' Tabor, a resident of Sun City, California, passed away on January 02, 2016 at Loma Linda University Medical Center, Murrieta, Riverside County California.
Mrs. Tabor was born in Indianapolis, IN. on July 16 1925 to Francis Joseph Grant and Rachel Evelyn 'Logan' Grant. She had one brother, William Logan Grant. All three have predeceased her, as well as have her husband and eldest son, Frank Grant Tabor.
Janet was a concert pianist, playing classical music from the tender age of two, until her death. Little Janet was first tutored under the direction of both, Joseph Rudolph Callahan and Adolph Koler. Janet also played for the KTHS radio station. She was written up in various newspapers for concert appearances and hailed a child prodigy. She attended Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas at the age of nine, to study piano under Dr. Frederick Harwood and Violin under Mrs. Harwood. When Chicago hosted the Worlds Fair, in 1933-1934, Janet was asked to perform there, for the Century in Progress Exposition.
At the age of 11, between the year of 1935-1936, she attended the University of Arizona at Tucson. After her father passed in Oct. of 1936, Her mother Rachel, moved herself and her two children, William and Janet, to Los Angeles, CA.
While a member of the Children's Youth Orchestra there, they were ask to play for President Franklin D Roosevelt's birthday celebration, which was hosted by his wife, Eleanor Roosevelt.
She met and was smitten by Wallace Fleming Tabor, while both attended the University of Southern California and played in an orchestra together there. 'Wally' played the Flute and she, the piano.
Wally entered the Navy and They married soon after. They were married January 29 1944 in Los Angeles, CA. I am not sure which came first, their marriage, or the volunteer work but Janet had worked for the USO during the war.
Janet's husband was honorably discharged from the Navy due to a grave illness. To further hasten his recovery, they moved to Bakersfield, CA. and later, moving back to the Los Angeles, area.
They raised five girls and two boys together. Neither going back to their dreams of musical careers. She was housewife and mother, he worked for Atlantic Richfield/Sinclair.
She has left to mourn her death, her remaining children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and an ever growing number of great, great grandchildren.
Her husband of 48 years passed in 1992 and she has pined for him since. Janet has gone to be at rest with Wally at last.
She was interred 09 February 2016.
