Cecil married on 25 Nov 1894 in Cleburne Co. AL to JOseph Mercer Hand, son of Edward Solomon Hand and Eliza Babb of Heard Co. GA.

Joseph and Cecil died of Typhoid Fever

"In October, 1905, typhoid fever swept through the country, killing Joseph Mercer and Cecil Mary Fowler Hand, their deaths being only three days apart. Joseph Noel was only 8 months old at the time. Upon the deaths of the children's parents, their grandfather, Edward Solomon Hand, the crippled Confederate veteran, and their grandmother, Eliza Babb Hand, moved into their house to rear them.

This elderly couple reared their grandchildren until Eliza Babb Hand died in 1912 and her husband, Edward, was unable to care for the grandchildren. Claude and Hugh were teenagers at this time and pretty much on their own. Ten-year-old Flora was sent to her Aunt Lula Johnson's home [note: this was Lula Fowler Johnson, daughter of William Jethroe Fowler and Lula Owen, and sister of Cecil Mary Fowler Hand. Lula married William D. Johnson] and seven-year-old Joseph Noel Hand was taken in by his father's sister, Emma Hand Smith, and her husband, James Smith .....
