SAMUEL GLENN ABBOTT
November 2, 1940 ~ March 9, 2005

Memorial services for Altus resident Samuel Glenn Abbott, 64, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Old Ringold Cemetery. Randy Watkins will officiate. Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, Altus, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Abbott died Wednesday at his home. He was born Nov. 2, 1940, at Ringold to Charlie and Mary James Abbott. He was a 1959 Rattan High School graduate.

He joined the U.S. Army on Sept. 24, 1963. He served two years of active duty and was stationed at the U.S. Army Personnel Center, Oakland, Calif. During this time, he served for 10 months and 18 days in South Korea. He was a heavy vehicle driver and earned the Marksman (Rifle M-14) Badge. He was released from active duty on Aug. 26, 1965. He was then transferred to the Army Reserves until being honorably discharged on Sept. 23, 1969, at the rank of Spec. 4-E4.

He married W. Gale Lord at Reno, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a brother, Charlie "Junior" Abbott; a sister, Willie Belle Tuck; and a sister-in-law, Naomi Ruth Abbott.

Survivors include one daughter, Ladonna Johnson, Tecumseh; two grandchildren; and three brothers, David Abbott, Mount Shasta, Calif., Jimmy Abbott, Frazier Park, Calif., and Bill Abbott, Stonewall.
