Margaret Janet Fowler, a longtime resident of the Okmulgee area, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, December 31, 2015. She was born on July 30, 1923, in Dewar, Oklahoma, to Wilburn Roby and Celie Johanna (Shoun) Ingle. She was one of six children and graduated from Dewar High School. In 1942, she married the love of her life, James Arlie Fowler. Three months after they married, James was deployed for 29 months to the South Pacific for service in World War II. During this time, Margaret worked in Oakland, California, faithfully and lovingly awaiting James’s return. Thankfully, James returned safely, and they moved to Oklahoma and started a family. They had two daughters. Margaret was one of the first in a generation of women empowered with liberation. She was a very successful career woman as an auditor with the US Selective Service System. After her government retirement in 1976, she continued her ambitious endeavors as a realtor. She prided herself in being an accomplished business woman, and her family was proud of her many achievements. Margaret was a proud member of the Order of Eastern Star and Past Worthy Matron. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Okmulgee. Above all, throughout her life, Margaret’s family was her great and constant love. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, an accomplished cook, and an incredible dancer. Her family is grateful and consoled knowing that she is with James again, joyfully dancing in his arms. Margaret was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband James Fowler, a brother Leon Ingle, sisters Pauline Rogez and Norma Streight, and two infant brothers Gilmer and Robert Ingle. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, January 4, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Henryetta, Oklahoma.
