MATTOON -- Dorothy Irene Hurst, 76, of Mattoon, died at 1:06 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2004 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. She was born January 18, 1928 in Coles County, a daughter of Paul Fletcher and Elsie (Nichols) Bence. She married Clinton Hurst on April 21, 1947; he died in 1976. The graveside was conducted October 5, 2004 at Muddy Point Cemetery in rural Lerna. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo was in charge of arrangements. Survivors include four sons, Terry Hurst and wife Claudia of Lerna, Larry Hurst of Trilla, James Hurst and wife Charlotte and Edward Hurst, all of Lerna; five daughters, Elizabeth and husband Jerry Zike of Mattoon, Madonna McCray of Greenville, Joyce and husband Allan Zike of Mattoon, Paula and husband Dave Kemper of Greenup, Pamela Mitchell of Lerna; one brother, George Bence of Mattoon; one sister, Carolyn and husband Bud Frey of Elko, Nev.; 17 grandchildren; 1 step-grandchild; six great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
