Erwin D. "Mutt" Allen, 85, of Booneville, died of heart failure Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Services were held Dec. 7 at Booneville United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial was at the Booneville Cemetery.

Erwin W. "Mutt" Allen was born in Boone Township in Dallas County and spent his entire life there. He was was a retired grain elevator operator with Booneville Co-op and an Army veteran and prisoner of war in Germany in World War II. He was a member of Adel American Legion and an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed fishing.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Homer, Robert and Same, and one sister, Clara Paullen.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy; one son, Erwin D. "Butch" Allen, Jr. of Springfield, Mo.; one step-daughter Mary Lou Murphy-Kellen of Sun City, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
