Sarah was born 6 February 1740, the daughter of William Rose. Her mother was reported to have been Mrs. Sarah Gardner (though a wife of this William Rose was named Mary.) On 26 January 1760 Sarah Rose was married to John Cessna. (The latter had been living in the Shippensburg, PA area, so it seems likely that Sarah Rose also came from this area.) John and Sarah (Rose) Cessna moved to Bedford County, PA. Sarah died there on 1 July 1788, probably in Cumberland Valley Township, and was likely buried on her husband's property. (Her husband died in 1802, and was buried on a farm in this township.)
