Lynn E. Hermesch, 69, of Home, KS, died Thursday, December 31, 2015 at his home.
Lynn was born on April 22, 1946 at Axtell, KS, to Frank and Valeria (Voet) Hermesch. In 1964, he graduated from Marysville High School. In the fall of 1964 he joined the National Guard. He served 6 years and on active duty for fifteen months in Colorado Springs.
On June 8, 1985, he was united in marriage to Inez McClary-Keating at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church.
Lynn farmed all his life. He was a custom harvester for nineteen years, cutting in Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota. He taught many young men about farming and harvesting. Young men from South Africa came to work for him on the harvest crew. Lynn loved the farm and farming, also feeding cattle over the years. Also for a number of years, he ran a bulldozer for the Schell family business.
As a younger man, he enjoyed snow skiing and took his sisters, nieces and nephews as well as multiple ski trips with his stepsons and their families. Lynn enjoyed playing cards. He grew up playing cards with his family, and to this day that is their biggest entertainment.
Lynn enjoyed old cars and attending car shows. He would visit with the owners about their cars and would go cruising in his 1963 Impala 409. Old tractors were also a favorite. Lynn enjoyed going on road trips with Inez to various parts of the country.
He served on the Farm Bureau Board, belonged to the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and served on the Balderson Township Board. He was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Lynn was a man of his word and a man of faith. He truly enjoyed the “prayer meetings” with the neighborhood men, where they caught up on new and old trends in farming. Lynn was generous with his fellow man but always in a quiet way.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Marilyn Hasenkamp; infant brothers, Richard Hermesch, Mark Hermesch; nephew, John Hasenkamp; and niece, Joni Lord.
Survivors include his wife, Inez; stepsons, Barry Keating, Grand Junction, CO, David (Kris) Keating, Topeka, Jacob Keating, Houston, TX; sisters, Kay Maltbie, Wichita, Jane Bicknell, Topeka; brother-in-law, Stan (Carole) Hasenkamp, Beattie; six grandchildren, Corey, Ashley, Chelsea, Caleb, Ellie, Maya; two great grandchildren, Jaxon, Sophia; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 5 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
