Vera Jane Fullbright Whisnant Kirby entered into her eternal rest on Thursday, February 28, 2023.

Mrs. Kirby was born to Andrew Fullbright and Myrtle Jane Whitener Fullbright August 26, 1931, in Hickory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Cornelia and Zelma, and brothers Angus, Iris, Hayden, and Ervin, all of Hickory. Mrs. Kirby was also preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Howard Whisnant, of Hickory, and her second husband, Hydrick "Jack" Linder Kirby.

As a child, Mrs. Kirby was baptized at First Baptist Church of Hickory where she continued to worship through her youth. She graduated St. Stephens High School in 1949 where she played basketball. Mrs. Kirby soon married and started a family in Hickory before moving to Brownwood, TX. She subsequently lived in Tupelo, MS, and Hendersonville, N.C., before relocating to Clemson, S.C.

Mrs. Kirby is survived by two sons, Greg Whisnant and Jeff Whisnant, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her sister, Marcella Fullbright, of Hickory. A graveside memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2023 in Catawba Memorial Park.
