Documents show Henry came with his parents Johannes Cuons (note spelling) with wife Anna Elisabetha "Catherine" STOEVER and their 5 children from the Rhine River 1749 arrived in Philadelphia on Captain Steadman's ship.
1749 April 21 Johannes Counts petitioned 350 Acres on Crims Creek of bounty granted by England's King George
1764 Henry COUNTS bought land near St. Pauls Church, Pomaria from Martin Singley (Memorials 11: 155).
On 4 & 5 Aug 1761 the 300 A land grant to Herman Noulfer was sold by the grantee to Martin Singley who released 150 A of tract 27 & 28 June 1764 to Henry Kountz (Memorials 11-55). Part of this land was later sold by Henry Counts and wife, Mary Elizabeth (Newberry Deeds B-777).
1780 Feb 2. Witness with Henry Counts land transfer from Johnaness Fellers to Catherine Counts.
1783-1786 Revolutionary claims filed in South Carolina between Aug 20, 1783 and Aug 31, 1786, as kept by the Auditor General, James McCall.

By first wife (name Unknown, but most likely Mary Elizabeth SINGLEY) had son Frederick COUNTS, born 1774 (birth date based on 1850 census)

Known children of Henry COUNTS:
1. Frederick COUNTS. Married Rosanna "Rose" TIDMORE (d/o Dorothea" SEASE and Heinrich TIDMORE, aka Heinrich Dietmar of Frankfurt, Germany). Frederick was a witness on April 1, 1817 to half-brother Henry County (Jr)'s WILL; 1824 lived Jefferson County, Ala; 1830 lived Shelby Co, TN; 1840 Winston County, MS; but quickly moved by 1840, 1841 & 1850 lived Yalobusha Co MS where he is listed as age 76.

Children by Catherine FELLERS Counts:
2. Catherine Counts (1790-1834). Married Standwick Winston HAYS. By 1820 settled in Blount County, Alabama. Both buried there.
3. Henry COUNTS (Jr). ( -1817) Married Catherine" Sallie" HAIR.
4. Margaret COUNTS. Married James Singleton. Served in War of 1812. Moved to other areas.
5. Elizabeth COUNTS. (1801- aft 1865). Married Robert Henry RIKARD. From 1830 to 1860 lived Franklin County, Alabama. Descendants indicate, "During Civil War moved to Vienna, Illinois".
6. Mary COUNTS. No data.
7. John COUNTS. Married Mary" Elizabeth" Summer (d/o William Summer, Sr) 1830 lived Tuscaloosa Co, AL; 1840 & 1850 lived Perry Co, AL; By 1858 the family lived in Winston Co, Mississippi and are enumerated on the 1860 & 1870 census there.
8. Jacob COUNTS. Married Martha MILLS. Jacob's son Henry COUNTS enumerated on the 1850 Jackson County, Arkansas census.

Note: Despite the numerous original documents found in the safe in the SC State Archives stored in Columbia, South Carolina with his name clearly spelled: COUNTS. Plus, the fact the family lived in COUNTSVILLE, SC.
The Genealogist employed by The Daughters of The American Revolution (DAR) headquartered in Washington, DC. altered spelling Henry Counts surname to be Henry Koon (note spelling).
When asked about the reasoning? Their replied, "DAR has been changing surnames since 1973. Besides being of German descent, the German alphabet does not have a "C".
On the grave markers of hundreds, the name is clearly spelled "COUNTS".
Family History should be kept as accurate as possible. Period.
