Funeral services for Mr. Walter J. Smith, 92, of Hilham will be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday, December 11 from the Chapel of Speck Funeral Home, Livingston, TN with burial in Old Union Cemetery, Hilham, TN. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5 until 9 p.m.
Mr. Smith died December 8, 2003 at Overton County Nursing Home. He was born May 2, 1911 in Overton County to the late William and Mary Ayers Smith. He was a forester with the State of Tennessee and farmer.
He was a member of Hilham Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Rosie Smith of Hilham; daughters, Betty (& James) Parrott of Livingston, Peggy (& Lee Bartley) of Somerset, KY, and Wynell Franklin of Livingston; sons, Billy (& Lynette) Smith of Livingston, Paul Smith of Hilham and Carl (& Linda) Smith of Hilham; 12 grandchildren, Shirley Flurey, Cindy Morrow, Kathy Howell, David Smith, Billy and Joe Parrott, Jamie Kay Rogers, Johnny, Benny, & Kenny Thomas, Vicki Swartz, and Gary Smith; 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Elmo Smith, and grandchild, Carolyn Smolen.
