It has been suggested that William Maynard emigrated from England to America on the ship Brothers at age 16 about 1736, which suggests he was born in 1720. William Maynard served as a private in the French and Indian War under Captain Robert Spotswood's Company. He was mustered in service 9-2-1755 and described as being 28 yrs. old (b. 1727), 5'6" tall, occupation-shoemaker, from England, enlisted at Williamsburg, VA, build: well-made, scar of lip, with thick dark brown hair.
