Frederick J. McCale, 92, of Camden, NY, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Crouse Community Center, Morrisville, NY. He was born January 13, 1923 in Camden, NY, a son of Joseph and Sarah Arthur McCale and was a graduate of Camden High School and Syracuse University. Fred served with the U.S. Army during WWII. On June 16, 1945 he married the former Eileen Hannon in St. John's Church. She passed away Feb. 6, 2013. Fred owned and operated the H.G. Ellis Insurance Agency from 1960-1990 where he earned many awards and designations within the Insurance industry, including his CPCU. He also owned and operated along with his wife The Eileen Shop, which won numerous awards for their window displays at Christmas time. Fred's love for Camden was endless, some of his civic activities include his Charter membership in the creation of Friends of Forest Park, longtime and current member of the Camden Rotary Club where he held various offices. He was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship Award for his "service above self" from Rotary International. Fred was a lifelong member of St. John's Church, serving as Trustee for many years, longtime member and former officer Camden Area Chamber of Commerce, receiving the Citizen of the Year Award in 1980, longtime member and executive board member of Arthur S. Moran American Legion Post #66, active member and organizer of the Camden Sesquicentennial Committee, Village of Camden Planning Board member. Fred was also instrumental in establishing the senior housing at Mill Stream Manor. He was a lifetime member of McConnellsville Golf Club and a loyal fan and Orange Pack member of Syracuse University sports and season ticket holder for many years. Surviving are three daughters, Karen and Patrick Donahue, Chaumont, NY, Mary Ann and Leo Schuler, Blossvale, Marilyn and Charles Race, Erieville, NY; a daughter-in-law, Gail Gordon, Slingerlands, NY; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Trudy Whitney, Lake Mary, FL; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hannon, Wilmington, DE and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two sons, Joseph Patrick McCale, 1995 and David William McCale, 2007. A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2016 from St. John's Church, Camden, NY under the direction of LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, NY. Interment: St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home, 109 Main Street.
