G, Twenty-third Iowa Vounteer Infantry and was rejected by the Mustering Officer because of a side injury. Enlisted as a Substitute Volunteer for a period of one year on September 26,1864, as a Private in agreement with John H. Keller, Esq. for sufficient consideration paid, serving in Co. E, 2nd Iowa Infantry until his death on April 10, 1865 from disease.
