Mrs. Geneva I. Sugarbaker, age 104 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, December 28, 2015 at her home.

Geneva was born October 27th, 1911 in Zealand, Michigan the daughter of Arie and Rena Elsinga Van Dyke. She was married on December 28, 1935 in Zealand, Michigan to Dr. Everett Sugarbaker who preceded her in death on January 7, 2001.

Gevena graduated from Zealand High School, Zealand, Michigan and Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illlinois. She also graduated from the Lenox Hill School of Nursing in New York City as a Registered Nurse.

First, and most importantly, she was a Mother but did serve as a Registered Nurse. After her family was raised and at the age of sixty, she returned to nursing in her husband's medical practice.

Geneva was a member of Concord Baptist Church. She also served as a member and president of the Jefferson City Board of Education for several years. She served in the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Commission, was a member of the Women's Medical Auxiliary, and ministered to the women at the Tipton Correctional Facility, Tipton, Mo.

She was instrumental in the establishment of the Peter Pan School for handicapped children which is currently the Special Learning Center.

Survivors include: eight children, Paul Sugarbaker of Washington, D.C., Rena Pedersen of Yorkville, Illinois, Geneva Sugarbaker of Sedona, Arizona, Evangeline Tolley of Miami, Florida, Connie Moore of St. Louis, Mo. David Sugarbaker of Houston, Texas, Elizabeth Akre of St. Louis, Mo., and Stephen Sugarbaker of Durham, North Carolina; thirty grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Everett Sugarbaker and one daughter, Deborah Digges.

Visitation will be at Concord Baptist Church from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm on Tuesday, January 5, 2016.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 pm Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Concord Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Concord Baptist Church Television Ministry.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
