Joe passed away on December 24, 2015 in Albuquerque, NM, surrounded by his family.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Sylvia, son-in-law, John Maruffi, grandchildren, Joe N. and Maria Maruffi, Joe’s fiancée, Melissa Martínez, Maria’s husband, Anthony Okamura, nieces, nephews and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers and sisters, Lucy Chávez, Ray Apodaca, Julia Montoya, Primi Apodaca, Arthur Apodaca and Pat Apodaca.
Joe was honored to have been a supervisor at Sandia National Laboratories for 41 years and 9 months, 1949 through 1991. Joe took great pride in sharing in the lives and accomplishments of his grandchildren, enjoyed golfing, watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys and meeting the crew at McDonald’s for coffee and lively discussion of how to solve the problems of the world.
Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at French - Wyoming followed by a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Joe N. Maruffi, Anthony Okamura, Greg Joyner, John Monget, Rudy Chávez and Darrell McKnight. Honorary pallbearers include all of Joe’s nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend an invitation to join them in celebrating Joe’s life at Mario’s Ristorante following the services.
Joe’s family would like to express their deepest appreciation to those special caregivers at Elmcroft Assisted Living facility and the highly supportive staff of Hospice of New Mexico for their compassion and care.
