Laura Jane Kemp, 70, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 23, 2015.

Laura was born on December 7, 1945, in Burley Idaho to Samuel and Lurella Stephens. When she was young, the family moved to Idahome, seven miles north of Malta. Growing up, Laura had fond memories of riding horses, hiking, going "snipe" hunting, and playing with her brothers and sisters and many close cousins. She was an active high school student, participating in track and serving as Home Coming Attendant, Home Coming Queen, and Student Body Vice President during her Jr. and Sr. years. She graduated from Raft River High School in 1964 and moved to Twin Falls to attend Twin Falls Business College.

After school, Laura began working at City Finance where she met Fay Kemp, who came in to make his car payments. Laura thought Fay was very handsome, and they were married the following spring. Fay and Laura later welcomed their daughters, Kristy and Tracy, who were born 16 months apart. After staying home with her children for a few years, Laura helped Fay run the "Big Chief" drive-in in Buhl, and later went to work for Bill Kyle in the McDonald's office, where she worked until she retired.

Over the years, Fay and Laura were very kind and giving. Their door was always open and they hosted numerous exchange students and foster children. Laura was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she served as a Primary teacher, Young Women's advisor, and Compassionate Service leader for many years. She was also a skilled artist, and looked forward to her weekly painting lessons. Laura enjoyed entering her paintings in the fair and loved sharing her talent with others. She completed many beautiful oil paintings for friends and family.

Laura had a great sense of humor. Just last week the ticketing agent at the airport asked if she could help with anything else. To the agent's surprise, Laura answered with a serious face, "A tall, dark and handsome please." Laura was also a wonderful grandmother to her four grandchildren, and despite all of her health challenges over the years, rarely complained. She always had a positive attitude and was an inspiration to those that knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Kristy (Mike) Buffington of Twin Falls, Tracy (Jesse) Allen of West Linn, OR, four grandchildren: Gracy, Karter, Max, and Meg; six siblings, Carolyn Teeter of Burley, Rose (Von) Scholes of Pocatello, Clint (Joelynne) Stephens of Pocatello, Mary Joyce (Alvin) Carpenter of Elba, Daryl Stephens of Palmyra, UT, and Vernon Stephens of Heyburn, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, M. Fay Kemp; her father, Samuel Stephens; her mother, Lurella Clark; her stepmother, Berniece Stephens; and her niece, Stephanie Scholes.

The funeral will be held Monday, December 28 at 11 a.m. at the LDS church, 229 Park Ave, Twin Falls. There will be a private family viewing one hour before the service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of White's mortuary. Burial will follow at the Twin Falls Cemetery.

Her daughters with to express their gratitude to all of the wonderful Encompass Home Health and Hospice nurses who cared for Laura in recent months. Your care was wonderful and she greatly appreciated and looked forward to your weekly visits.
