POINT PLEASANT — Hazel "Nannie" Ellen McCarty Bowen, 85, of Flatwoods, Ky., and formerly of Point Pleasant, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 at her residence and is now at rest in the presence of the Lord.

She was born in Point Pleasant on Dec. 25, 1927 to the late James A. McCarty and Ivy (Wheeler) McCarty.

She was of the Apostolic Pentecostal Faith and was one of the founding members of The Abundant Life United Pentecostal Church in Raceland, Ky. Mrs. Bowen was a dedicated and loving mother and Nannie who cherished her family. She worked as a medicine technician at Riverview Nursing Home.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Edward Bowen on Oct. 29, 2011; one grand daughter, Wendy Dawn Bowen; three sisters, Edith McCarty Rayburn, Kathleen McCarty Oliver and Mabel McCarty Carver; one infant brother, James McCarty, Jr.; and her stepmother, Violet McCarty.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory a devoted family, including a daughter, Vicki Bowen-Bailey of Wurtland, Ky.; two sons, Gary W. Bowen and his wife Brenda, and Steven J. Bowen, all of Flatwoods; a special granddaughter whom she raised as a daughter, Jill Miller and her husband, John of Flatwoods; Jannette Richards who she treated as a sister; six grand children, Shane Bowen, Brandy Jervis, Jimmy Bowen, Amanda Duffy, Daniel Bowen and Jessica Bowen; and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Carman Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013 with Pastor Anthony Keeton officiating. Entombment was followed at Rosehill Burial Park in Ashland, Ky.
