RASMUSSEN, Joan Derby born January 1, 1925, in Hammond, Indiana, died December 23, 2015, Lakewood, CA. She was the second of Hugh and Florene (Stepp) Derby's three daughter's raised in Owensboro, Kentucky. The family came to California in 1944. Joan and her older sister, Marguerite Derby Fadhl, who died in January, returned to Owensboro to visit often and for the last 15-years came to the yearly class reunions in July. Joan graduated from Davies County High School, Owensboro, in 1942. She was a retired Mortgage Executive, but her life's passion was 70-years of volunteer service in local service organizations doing the grassroots work necessary to make a difference in the lives of others. Joan was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel, the highest title of honor bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky, in recognition of her noteworthy accomplishment and outstand service to community, state and nation. She is survived by her younger sister Jerrie Buckner, two daughters and two sons, two living grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. In 1997, she was predeceased by her husband of 51-years, Ward Rasmussen and her oldest grandson, Rick Cerone.
