Rufus Weaver, one of McSherrystown's aged citizens, died suddenly at about 8:30 a.m. Monday, being found dead in bed. During the past three years he had suffered slight strokes of paralysis and he was helpless for quite a long time. He appeared in his usual spirits just before his death and ate a light breakfast. Deceased was in his 83d year. Mr. Weaver was a carpenter by trade and came to McSherrystown about 24 years, having lived previously near White Hall. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Kate Dalheimer. About 55 years ago he was married to Miss Louise Reider, who survives him together with an only son, Joseph Weaver, of McSherrystown. Two sisters-Mrs. Savilla Eltz and Mrs. Agnes Little-and a brother, Edward Weaver of McSherrystown, also survive.

In the Conewago Church Records, Rufus was born 12/1/1822 and baptized 12/9/1822 under the name of Rufus Weber, son of Henry & Christine Oldman Weber. Sponsors - John Strauerbach and Mary Weber.
He married Catherine on 10/2/1845 and Louise Ryder on 2/2/1851.
