LaVerne M. “Verne” Gregory, age 85, of Batesville, formerly of Los Alamos, NM and Timbo, AR, died Thursday, December 17, 2015. Born May 2, 1930 in Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of Howard C. Schick and Frances Post Schick.

She was a graduate of Kent State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education and also graduated from a community college as a licensed practical nurse. She worked in law enforcement for several years, then as an LPN while living in Timbo. She worked as a visiting nurse and also assisted her husband who worked as a craftsman at the Ozark Folk Center after his retirement from the Los Alamos National Laboratory. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel E. Gregory and wife, Tammy, of Batesville and Donn T. Gregory of North Carolina; six grandchildren: Megan Frost and her husband, Nick, of Austin, AR, Blair Gregory of Batesville, Jonathan Blackwell of Oklahoma, Marya Vidal, Tara Steigmeyer, and Sarah Madsen all of Washington; two step-grandchildren, Brittany Warren and her husband, Ashley, and Brooke Butler both of Batesville; six great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Smith of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 45 years, Tom G. Gregory; a daughter, Dawn Sharon Blackwell; and a brother, Howard S. Schick.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery with Scotty Karber officiating and under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Pallbearers will be Paul McDonald, Jeff McDonald, Nick Frost, and Ashley Warren.
