Carolyn Bowen Nason joined her husband in death on Friday, Sept. 1, 2006.

She was born in Evans County, Georgia on Aug. 12, 1929, the sixth of eight children born to Solomon and Mamie Bowen. The family moved to Athens, Ga., when Carolyn was 3. She attended Whitehall Grade School and University High School. At 17 she eloped to Reno, Nev., to marry John P. (Jack) Nason whom she'd met at a football game while he was stationed in Georgia in the Navy. After completing his military service, Carolyn and Jack moved back to his home state of Montana where they began farming. They farmed in the Conrad, Power and Fairfield areas and raised four boys during that time.

While living in Fairfield, Carolyn attended cosmetology school and successfully ran her own beauty salon for a number of years. After the boys were grown, Jack and Carolyn moved to Helena where they managed rental properties. During those years they enjoyed many winter vacations to Hawaii. Carolyn loved the sun and the warm weather. Eventually she and Jack purchased a home in Southern California where they went to escape the Montana winters until Jack's death in 1995.

Carloyn was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Two of her most anticipated activities each year were Family Camp and West of 60s camp at Glacier Bible Camp. Carloyn also enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, knitting, crocheting and sewing. Her most recent passion was finding the treasures of value at local garage sales.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Solomon and Mamie; three sisters, Edna, Thelma and Geneva; two brothers, Willard and Raymond; her beloved husband, Jack; and sons, Bruce and Edward.

She is survived by her sister, Jessie (J.P) Toney of Monroe, Ga.; her brother, Floyd (Maxine) Bowen of Pinehurst, Ga.; her two sons, Ronald (Sharon) Nason of Helena, Melvin (Judy) Nason of Lynnwood, Wash.; eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Carolyn's family would like to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to the dedicated staffs at the Waterford and Big Sky Care Center for the care they provided Carolyn over the past several years.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today, Sept. 5, at Retz Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at the First Assembly of God Church, 2210 Dodge Ave. Interment will follow at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery.

Memorials in Carolyn's name can be made to Glacier Bible Camp, c/o Montana District of the Assemblies of God, 2147 Overland Ave., Billings, MT, 59102 or the Montana Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 3010 11th Ave. North, Billings, MT, 59104.
