Obituary written by Ruth's daughter Karen Cote

The daughter of Walter and Myrtle Aaberg, Ruth graduated from St. Olaf College in 1963 with a Nursing Degree. She was married to Dan Hassenpflug from 1963-1990. They lived in Birmingham, Michigan where they raised their three daughters-Karen, Lori and Sarah.

Ruth obtained her MSN and other degrees while she managed the Family Child Health Departments at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Michigan. Ruth was an innovative manager and credited for making the labor and delivery departments more family oriented with a candle light dinner for new parents, sibling classes, and a baby hotline for new moms to call in with questions.

In 1990 Ruth moved to Rapid City, South Dakota and opened a Home Health Care Agency. She was married to Jim Hanson from 1994-1999. She then moved to Lake Forest, CA and again worked as a nursing manager at a hospital in Anaheim. In 2001, she moved to Minnesota. She retired at age 62.

Ruth loved music, quilting and animals. She stayed in Minnesota until she passed away on November 7, 2015.

Ruth is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Karen and Brian Coty, Lori and Tim Morenc and Saray and Scott Gray, and her eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her one sibling, Anita Hanson.
