- "Lee" Roy Barber -

Or Leroy Barber

"Lee" Roy Barber was the last son born to Lonnie Graham Barber and Laura Emma Sparks Barber. He was usually known by the name..Lee Barber. The birth year of Lee could have been either 1918 or 1919, as his birth year has been listed both ways. "Lee" was born in Burke County, North Carolina.

Siblings were Ernest Lee, Ellis Graham, Lula Rae, Fred Wilson, Melvin Reid, and Margie Helen Barber.

Lee was the father of a child, a son, born overseas (England) while Lee was stationed there when he was in the service. This son later made contact with my Father (about 1989), a few years before my Father passed away in 1994. Lee's son had come to the states looking for his Father, so he visited my Daddy and a few other relatives of his Father that he could locate at that time. His father, Lee, had already passed away. I am not certain on this, but I think his son's name was "Thomas Pike". (perhaps his Mother's Maiden Name?}

I was later told that my Uncle Ernest, brother to Lee, had the U.S. Flag that was presented in Lee's memory and that he did give it to Lee's Son at the time of his visit to the states.

From what I have been told from other family members, Lee was never the same after coming back from oversea's military duty.

After getting out of service, he lived around Burke County, North Carolina for a while, with then later moving to Virginia.

It seemed...Lee lived a very lonely life.. that was absorbed and destroyed by Alcoholism. He was found dead, alone, in a room located around the Portsmouth, Virginia vicinity.

Family members had his body brought back to Caldwell County, North Carolina, for burial. Presently, I am trying to locate his burial place. According to what I have been told, it should be here in North Catawba Baptist Church Cemetery where his Mother, Father, and some other relaives are buried.
