Ray Glover Billings was born Dec. 23, 1901, near Nopal, Texas, in Gonzales county, was clothed with immortality April 26, 1923. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mollie Billings. Ray was stricken with appendicitis three weeks prior to his death and was moved to the Nixon hospital, where a successful operation was performed and he was speedy recovery when he had a relapse and death came in spite of all that could be done by skilled physicians.
The funeral was conducted by Rev. H. M. McKinney, who paid glowing tribute to that unselfish life that stood for all that was good.
The floral offerings were as if all the flowers of spring had united to pay their last sad tribute and among them was a wreath of flowers placed there by two snow-hooded knights of the K.K.K., and know that Ray Billings stood for noble things.
Besides a host of friends, he leaves a father, mother, five sisters, four brothers and numerous relatives.
"Oh not in cruelty, not in wrath,
The reaper came that day,
"Twas an angel visited this green earth.
And took a flower away."
