Second Earl of Oxford and Asquith. He was the grandson of the former British Prime Minister H. H. Asquith and was just five months old when his father lost his life on the Somme.

Lord Oxford enjoyed a successful career in the Colonial Service, ending as Governor and Commander-in-Chief in the Seychelles.

He was appointed CMG in 1961 and KCMG in 1964.
