Born July 24, 1919, in Greer, SC, he was the son of the late Robert Grady Smith and Carrie (Beacham) Smith and the husband of the late Adele Virginia Banks Smith.
Retired owner of an office supply company, he was a member of Southside Baptist Church of Spartanburg, a Mason, and a Shriner. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Smith of Spartanburg, and Michael Smith and his wife Vandy of Cowpens; five grandchildren, Stuart, Andrew, David, Benjamin, and Amy Smith; and a special friend, Carmy Fisher of Spartanburg.
Visitation was 2:00-2:45 PM on Friday, September 1, 2006, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services followed at 3:00 PM at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Shep Bevis. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Grandchildren served as Pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to Southside Baptist Church, 316 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
