Clara Agnes Gentry Stookey, 1864-1927, Clara Agnes Gentry, the youngest child of Samuel and Elizabeth Gentry, was born 18, April 1864, in Mundon, England. She was three years old when she crossed the ocean to America. She grew up in Coalville. In 1889 she married Stonewall Jackson Stookey. She had a good and interesting life with S. J. Stookey. S. J. Stookey graduated from the University of Deseret the year before they were married and began teaching in the Salt Lake City schools. His interest soon turned to ranching and he became well known throughout the intermountain west as a buyer and shipper of livestock. He served as a legislator in the lower house of the state legislature from 190 to 1906 and in the senate from 1908 to 1912. During this time he was appointed Chairman of Education and was instrumental in securing a number of appropriations for the cause of education. He and Agnes had two daughters, Alice and Claudia. In later years Mr. Stookey became outstanding in his work in the growth and culture of flowers, especially dahlias. Clara Agnes cared for her mother for the last six years of her mother’s life. Clara died 21 January 1927, preceding her husband by nine years. She was buried in Cove Creek, Tooele, Utah.
