Herbert Bevington Cook, 79, of DeKalb, Mo area, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at North Kansas City Hospital.

Herbert was born March 6, 1936 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. At the age of 21, he was adopted by Clifford and Lois Cook. He attended Central Christian College in McPherson, Kansas, graduating in 1956. He spent the last 43 years in the St. Joseph area. He worked as a mechanic for TWA, retiring after 38 years. He also worked in construction for many years with his brother-in-law. Herb was a member of DeKalb Christian Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, raising cattle and cooking, especially smoking meats.

In 1956, Herb married Lois Williams, and they divorced in 1966. In 1970, he married his wife of 35 years, Martha D. Hein, who passed away in 2005. He then married Nancy Kates in 2007, who survives him of the home.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Clifford and Charles Bevington and wife, Martha D. Cook.

Survivors include his wife Nancy Cook, of the home; son Kurt Cook, of St. Joseph; daughter, Patty (Ron) Holder, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; sister, Virginia (Don) Hoffman of Cameron, Mo; sister-in-law, Ruth Bevington, of North Port, Florida; step children, Mike (Jamie) Kates, of DeKalb, Mo area, Terri (Mike) Rampola of Trimble, Mo and Jim (Kris) Kates, of St. Joseph; three step-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.

Celebration of Life will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday at DeKalb Christian Church under the direction of Clark-Sampson Funeral Home. Family will receive friends prior to service from 1:00 to 3:00 Saturday at the church. Herb will be cremated following services. Private inurnment will take place at a later date in Bethel Cemetery.
