Abbeville - Funeral Services will be held for Luther G. Suire, 85, at 2 pm on Monday, December 21, 2015 at David Funeral Home in Abbeville with Father Gregory Chauvin as the celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Marine Corp League will render Military Honors.

Sunday, December 20, 2015 from 9am to 8 pm a rosary will be prayed at 7pm.

Mr. Suire, a native of Kaplan and longtime resident of Abbeville, died peacefully on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at his residence after a 9 month battle with Cancer.

He was born the youngest child of Oscar & Marie Schexnider Suire. He was born and raised on a farm southwest of Kaplan, LA.

A 1948 graduate of Kaplan High School, Marine Corp Sergeant 1951to 1954, served in Korean War, 1955 BS of Science Degree in Education from SLI, Master’s Degree + 30 in Education from McNeese state University.

Taught and coached in Baton Rouge and was the Assistant Principal at Lanier Elementary for 3 Years, Taught and coached baseball, basketball, football and driver’s education at E Broussard High School, Kaplan High School and then became Principal of Indian Bayou High School until his retirement.

He was a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus and held State Offices for The Louisiana Square Dance Association.

He enjoyed his educational career for 40 years. To all the students that he came in contact with through the years, he would like to thank you for a great life. You are all outstanding young men and women.

He enjoyed RV traveling and square dancing.

He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Suire of Houston, Texas; son, Chris Suire, daughter in law, Connie Schexnayder Suire, grandson, Carson Suire of Abbeville; granddaughter Erica Ottmers of Houston, Texas; brother in law, Dr. Victor Gastinel of Baton Rouge, and special friend, Vivian Martin of New Iberia, and numerous nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lucille Gastinel Suire; daughters, Donna Suire Brown and Lydia Suire Ottmers; parents Oscar & Marie Suire; brothers, Paul, Willie, Alex, Rixby, Wilton, John, Dalton, Newton “Bea”, and Hugh; sister, Dorothy; brother in laws, Bill Gastinel & Elie Broussard.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Cain and staff at the Cancer Center/Infusion Therapy department at Abbeville General and the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care.

In lieu of flowers, Luther would like donations to be made in his name to St. Bryce Missions PO BOX 374, Lydia, LA 70569, www.stbryce.org
