At her home in Sugar City, Thursday, July 27, 2006 marked the completion of the life of Mildred "Millie" Edna Hirshi Mortensen, 93. Born in Salem, the daughter of David and Magdalena Wuthrich Hirschi. Married Vernon Christian Mortensen June 1, 1932 in the Logan Utah LDS Temple.

Singing at more than 1,500 funerals, weddings and other events in the valley, she attended school in Salem, Idaho. As a child, she spent summer breaks on the family ranch in Kilgore. Employed at JC Penney's for 27 years, she loved music. A active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as Relief Society president for more than eight years. From 1979-1981, Vernon and Millie served as missionaries in the Boston Massachusetts Mission. A charter member of the Melodaires vocal group, she loved gardening with her son, Michael, crocheting Afghans and quilting.

Surviving family members include: two daughters, Uvon (David) Murdoch and Sharon (Boyd) Summers; four sons, Arlen (Kay) Mortensen; John (Linda) Mortensen, Jerry (Marti) Mortensen and Michael Mortensen; 17 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren. Predeceased by husband, Thomas, who died on April 8, 1982; her parents; seven brothers; five sisters; a granddaughter, and a great-grandson.
