MARQUETTE, MI. - William C. "Bill" Bell, 82, of 1817 W. Fair Avenue, Marquette, entered eternal life August 1, 2012, at Marquette General Hospital in the loving care of his family.

Bill was born May 24, 1930, in Marquette to Elwin and Ruth (O'Neill) Bell and was a lifelong Marquette resident. Bill was a 1948 graduate of Graveraet High School. Following graduation from high school, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served his country from 1948 until 1953. After service to his country, Bill went to work for the State of Michigan as a corrections officer where he was employed for 33 years until his retirement.

During his career with the State of Michigan, Bill also tended bar for 22 years at various local establishments where he was affectionately known as "Disco Bill".
He was a member of the American Legion Post #44 and the Marquette Elks Lodge. Bill was an avid sports fan always supporting his Green Bay Packers, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, and Dale Earnhardt, Sr. In his spare time, Bill loved gardening and would never miss a chance to navigate a boat trip to Stannard Rock.

Survivors include his loving wife, Helen of 58 years; three daughters, Debbie (Larry) Langford, Cindy (Leo) Smith and Kelly (Bill) Kauppila all of Marquette; two sons, Bill (Liz) Bell of Dallas, TX and Jerry (Connie) Bell of Marquette; three grandchildren, Charlie, Melanie and Tyler Bell; two sisters, Joan (Ralph) Hood of Waupaca, WI and Sharon (Howard) Ellis of Marquette; his brother, Elwin (Margaret) Bell of Marquette; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Jean Mongrain of Houston, TX; his daughter-in-law, Becky Bell of Marquette and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Terry "Beaver" Bell and a daughter-in-law, Vicky Bell.
