Clare was the 2nd son born to George and Martha (Morian) Kent. Clare grew up in Cherry Creek with 2 brothers; Grant Earl and Frank M. Richard Kent. Clare never married.

We find 4 enlistments recorded in U.S. Army Enlistments for Clare. The first time he enlisted at age 19 on March 9, 1887; Discharged 3 years later in Ringgold, Texas - Excellent Service. The 2nd time Clare enlisted at age 25 on February 13, 1893; Discharged in Huston, Texas 3 years later on May 12, 1896, Excellent Service.

The 3rd time Clare enlisted a year later on May 28, 1897 at age 29. He is recorded as having brown eyes, dark brown hair, 5'8" tall. He is discharged 3 years later as Master Sergeant, Excellent Service.

On 1900 Census Clare is living with his parents in Jamestown, New York. On December 4, 1901 at age 33, Clare enlist for the 4th time in New York. 3 years later he is discharged at Angel Island, California - Service very good.

In 1907 Clare is in Jamestown City Directory: Occupation: Poultry Man at age 39. At age 42 in 1910, Clare is working his 70 year old father's family farm.

Clare's mother, Martha died in 1912. On 1920 Census Clare is a Carpenter for the U.S. Army in Presidio, Texas. Clare died there 5 years later at age 57. He was laid to rest in the Kent Family Plot in Cherry Creek Central Cemetery in New York, where his father, George was laid to rest 4 years earlier.
